Members who have legally changed their name are required to provide official government documentation before a name change process can begin.
Acceptable documentation includes, but is not limited to:
Marriage certificate
Divorce certificate
Other official government documentation confirming the legal name change
Once the documentation has been received and verified, MTA Alberta will temporarily hyphenate the member’s previous and new last names for a period of six months. This temporary naming convention is used for insurance purposes in the event an insurance company needs to verify the member’s identity when processing or approving a client claim.
After six months, the member’s name will be updated to reflect their current legal last name in the member portal, and the temporary hyphenated name will be removed.
If you have any questions regarding the name change process, please contact our office at info@mtaalberta.com.
