Massage Therapist Association Of Alberta

Massage Therapist Association of Alberta

Welcome to the MTAA website!  I hope that you find our newly designed site visually attractive, easier to use and much more functional.

The MTAA mission is to ‘Promote the practice of massage therapy through member services, education, professional standards and advocacy’.  What this means for the public is an increased peace of mind when utilizing an MTAA member as your Massage provider.

Unlike any other organization in Alberta, the MTAA is focused on providing our members with excellent services, such as a variety of continuing education and professional development opportunities, taken a step further in that we don’t just provide them the opportunity, we REQUIRE our members to be continually educating themselves.   Beyond this, our members must pass a competency-based examination to become members of the MTAA.  This ensures that we are allowing therapists with a minimum level of competency to utilize our name in a safe, effective and competent manner.

In an environment such as Alberta where seeking Massage Therapy is a “buyer beware” scenario, it is our goal to help the public access quality and safe care from competent practitioners.  Please use our find a therapist section to find the Massage Therapist in your area that meets your needs.

For the practitioner, this means reaping the benefits of an organization that is ‘MEMBER DRIVEN’.    Our organization’s direction is completely derived from our membership, which consists of Massage Therapists.  This means that our decisions, direction and mandate are in the best interest of your profession – Massage Therapy.  The MTAA’s vision is to see that ‘the profession of Massage Therapy is recognized by government and other health care professionals’.  We are striving to achieve this by way of advocacy on behalf of the individual member and the membership at large in a variety of ways.

As of recent, the MTAA along with the ARMTS and the RMTA have submitted an application for regulation of Massage Therapy to the Alberta Health and Wellness for consideration.  The MTAA is also a participant on the National front by way of collaborative efforts with the majority of the other provinces seeking to elevate the status of Massage Therapy at the federal level.  We have a long history of working cooperatively for the betterment of Massage Therapy both provincially and nationally.

For the business world, employers, organizations and insurance companies, our website will serve as a point of reference.  Not only are you ensured that an MTAA member in question meets our rigorous standards; there now is the ability to check on the status of our members to verify information needed to employ, contract, contact or reimburse with the click of a button.

Please explore the website and feel free to contact us with questions, feedback and suggestions.
